A Cajón sounds because a stretched skin is struck and ripples outward in rings. The rings do not line up into a tidy scale, which is why a drum has no note you can hum, and why it cuts through everything else in the room.

You play with other people. That is the point of the whole thing, and it arrives sooner than almost anyone expects.
